Reflection:

There is no one in life who can get away with presentation as presentation plays a huge role in our everyday studylife and worklife. As English is one of the most commonly used language world wide, English presentation skills is a must develop skill which begins during a young age.

In the process of preparing for the presentation, I experimented on different ways of expressing myself with different word choice after completing research on the given topic. I have learnt that word choice is one of the many important factors of capturing the attention of the audience. As we know, presentation slides have not only helps the presenters with remembering key points of the presentation, but also help capture and hold the attention of the audience. Therefore, presentation slides must have direct and key points which are easy to interprete by the audience. Lengthy and boring words will cause a negative impact as the audience will feel bored easily which defies the intention of the presentation. This is what I have learnt and understood from continuous refining of the presentation slides.

From presentation practice, I have learnt to develop basic nonverbal skills which are sufficient eyecontact, suitable posture and appropriate body language. I have learnt that with sufficient eyecontact with the audience (lecturers and classmates) I will be able to capture their attention as eyecontact is a silent sign which indicates a continuous interaction between the presenter and audience. In this presentation, sufficient eyecontact with lecturers ensures the lecturer of my confidence and concentration during the presentation. Other than that, suitable posture and appropriate body language shows my manners as if this was a serious and formal presentation. With suitable posture and appropriate body language such as hand gestures and the usage of the interactive board, I am able to further explain details of the presentation.

In a nutshell, from this presentation, I have gained knowledge on basic presentation skills and have experienced a real presentation. Preparation before a presentation is the key point of a successful presentation, with this, my group and I have put in a lot of effort in preparing the presentation slides and verbal practice before the actual day. Teamwork and team spirit is one of the factors this presentation was a success.
