ART // ARCHITECTURE // CULTURE
Tutorial Session 5
Tutorial Session 5:
This is a progress continuation from the last tutorial which is carried out on my own (not an actual class tutorial session). From the last tutorial, the 10 photos with reasoning on how culture implemented in each photo to sho fusion architecture is completed.
In this session, I will comeplete the postcard outlook which shows the actual printing format of each postcard. The postcards will have a label of "Jonker Street, Melacca" in the front while the back is a usual postcard format with a photo backdrop and explanation of the fusion architecture in the picture. I have used selective colour for the photo backdrop in the back part of the postcard as indication to show which part of the building I will be explaining about.
After completing the postcard, I will start on the timeline of shophouses (timeline information and timeline inspiration is shown in tutorial 3 CLICKHERE ) with the actual material and size. The timeline is inspired by calendars which have foldings where each page shows a style of different eras in the timeline. The timeline will be coloured and explained using icons, images and wordings.

The front cover of the postcard with a water mark at the bottom stating the location of the place the postcard was taken.
The back cover of the postcard with icons indiating the fusion implemented in the architecture. There is a partial transparent backdrop of either the original postcard front cover or a selective coloured part based on thc picture shown on the front postcard cover

This is an example of the selective colour used for the back part of the postcard. The lantern's colour is selected to show emphasis on the lantern together with other elements of the facade.
The front postcard cover is an upclose shot of the lantern.

Packaging Inspiration
On the packaging will be the timeline of shophouses (transformation of each era). The information included in the timeline is the era, general information of the shophouse, social activities carried out, fuision of different culture implemented in the architecture, and architecture transformation from one era to the other.
The timeline will be directly attatched on the outer packaing which is inspired by waterfall pull out cards where by the timeline is connected from one page to the other.
On the inside, the postcards are placed in a simple box where they are separated and tied up according to the facade and elements they belong in. For example, the facade and the elements belonging to a single building is tied up together as one stack.

The facade of each shophouse is drawn on the top (placement of flower) while the information is written behind.
