Kuala Selangor Trip
This is our first project for Elements of Natural Built Environment where our project is split into three different tasks. One of the task is an individual task known as the Scrapbook Journal where we have to identify our five senses experience, understand how the ecosystem works, elaboration of an animal and a plant. At the end of the Scrapbook Journal, we have to write about our personal thoughts and reflection on the trip.
As a group of 6, we have to carry out the investigation together at the chosen 5X5m site. However, the work compilation (scrapbook journal) is to be done individually with our own style to protray our learnings and new insights from the trip to Kuala Selangor.
The scrapbook journal is not only a walkthrough of the trip, but also a platform to learn and understand more about nature.

Project Brief:
Before going to Kuala Selangor, we had to do a proper planning in order to be able to carry out all the tasks assigned successfully in Kuala Selangor.
We first discussed the storyboard and theme of our documentary video. After drawing the storyboard and coming up with a storyline, we discussed with our lecturer (who was Mr Paul at that time) for approval. Then, we assigned different tasks such as videography, sketching the site, collecting data, etc. Tasks were distributed evenly among the member to be carried out at Kuala Selangor. There was no disagreement in the task distribution.

Kuala Selangor Trip
This is a brief walkthrough of the 3 Days 2 Nights trip in Kuala Selangor.

Day 1

This is our first day of the trip to Kuala Selangor and the journey begins after departing from Taylors. Upon arrival at the Kuala Selangor, we were given a brief by Mr Asokumar about the whole area. After the brief, we headed over to the mangrove swamp where we would be carrying out our tree planting activity.
We explored Kuala Selangor after our lunch to look for a spot as our 5x5m site. We searched for a few areas and discussed with our lecturer on the best spot for the site. In the end, we chose a site near the mud bank. There were shrubs and trees near the area we chose.
At night, we left for the firefly jetty for our firefly boat ride. It was my first time seeing fireflies at such a close distance. After arriving at the hotel, my tutorial group- Bumble Bee had our performance practice before heading to bed.

On the second day of our trip at Kuala Selangor, most of our time was spent at our 5x5m site. At the site, we investigated the area, did analysis about the texture, pattern, plant species, animal species and other natural elements by the site. We took photos of the area and filmed our documentary video there. We went into the mud to have a clearer look on the animals, plants and also have a feel of the texture of the mud.
After gathering all the information needed from the site, we headed back to the hotel to practice for our night performance. Night time soon came along and we had our performance from each tutorial group after dinner.

This is our last day at Kuala Selangor. We had no visits to the mudflat but we had activities session called "Wipe Out" at the hotel. After packing up and checking out, we had our group photo before departing back to Taylors.

DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE

This was my first time being exposed to the swamp area and it was indeed a different experience from my previous activities in forest and grassy areas. At Kuala Selangor, we were exposed to mudflats, mangrove swamps and forests. I have found the swamp or mudflat most fascinating as it has its own natural characteristics. It was a new insight for me where I have felt the texture of mud for the first time.
From the site visit, I have realised that observation skills is very important to be able to notice small details of your surroundings. We had to observe nature and analyze our site to be able to choose a topic as our theme for the infographic pop up poster. By observing our surrounding, we were able identify the potential themes to be used in our infographic poster.
I have also realized the importance of undersanding your group members before assigning them to do work. By doing so, we will be able to identify the strength of each other and assign proper work for them in order to be efficient, reach our target and achieve a successful outcome.
It was a fun and memorable time together with my group. I have come to understand more about my group members through this site visit as we have spent a lot of tie together woking as a group to collect data, make observations and film the videos. Other than that, I have gained knowledge on the natural habitats of animals in Kuala Selangor.
I had an awsome and great time with everyone at Kuala Selangor. My experience there was like no other as we were able to enjoy our time spent there while balancing our time with projects. It shows me the importance of time management and proper planning in order to complete a task. Other than that, from all the understandings of nature, I really felt as if I had to play my part in protecting nature. Pollution cases might not occur directly because of me, but it is my responsibility as an individual who lives on earth to help stop pollution and return Mother Nature back its original unpolluted life form.
As for the scrapbook journal, I have learnt to express my experience and thoughts in my own style. As we are in university, we have to have a higher thinking level where we put critical thinking in to action. It is important for us to be able to think our of the box and out of our confined minds while expressing out thoughts. In this scrapbook journal, I have managed to apply mindmapping skills while explaining about the events or data collected at Kuala Selangor.
