UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROFESSION AND DRAWINGS
This is the first project given to us which is an integrated project between Introduction to Drawing, Introduction to Construction Industry and English I. For Introduction to Drawing, our task is to investigate different types of drawings from one of the given professions.
Research, investigation and analysis has to be conducted to study about the uses of drawings as a mean of communication. Drawings from each profession must include types and function of drawings, stages and examples of drawings used to communicate ideas and presentations. A presentation will be carried out and a presentation slide must be generated from the gathered data and information.
The profession of my group is Mechanical & Electrical Engineer. Therefore, my group has to research on Mechanical & Electrical Engineer Drawings.

Project Brief:
Project Process:
Our main research source is from books related to Mechanical and Engineering articles. As this is a new topic for all of us, we had to do additional research on this profession to understand the profession better.
We started by doing research on all the topics together as a group indivually then had discussions about the information we gathered. Later, we had discussions about the information to be placed in the presentation slides and practiced our presentation together.

Reflection:

This is my first time working with a profession which is quite distant and unknown to myself. From this project, I was exposed to different types of drawing used by Mechanical and Electrial engineers in their profession as a way to communicate with other professions in the industry. I was amazed at how simple symbols could explain complicated circuit plans.
Throughout this project, I have learnt the importance of drawing as a form of communication between professions in the construction industry. Each and every detail carries an important message which has to be relayed properly in order for the receiver to understand and interprete the drawings correctly. A slight mistake in the legend or drawing could cause a huge misunderstanding between the drafter and the reciever which might result in a faulty or problematic sitution where the building safety is at stake.
From the research and information gathering, I was able to analyze and identify drawing details of Mechanical and Electrical engineers in their building layout plans. This is a good practice because understanding layout plans is compulsary for all professions involved in the construction industry. Being exposed to layout plans and drawings enable me to interprete different drawing representation which are commonly used in this industry.
In a nutshell, I have been exposed to different types and fuctions of drawings used by M&E engineers through research. This first projects has enlightened me on the importance of understanding building layout plans as a sort of visual communication.
