BUILDING TEAMS

This is the second project for Introduction to Construction Industry which is a group project of 6 people. This is a similar project to the previous project 1 as it is also related to the details regarding a profession. Students are required to interview one of the professions then make a magazine out of the details gathered from the interview.

In the interview, students are required to find out the company profile, background of the interviewee in construction industry, two projects that he/she is involved in, his/ her role as the profession in the two particular projects and his/ her roles and responsibilities as being part this profession. The interview has to be recorded as evidence.

The magazine will be created from the gathered infromation during the interview. The magazine has to include the interviewed topics.

The profession our group chose: Civil & Structural Engineer

The interviewee: IR Liew (Liew Cherng Qing's father)

Magazine Content

We started off with planning the interview questions for Mr Liew then interviewed him at Taylors University Lakeside Campus.

We continued with planning the layout for the magazine which includes the cover, design, font and layout of each page. Other than planning for the magazine, we came up with questions to ask the interviewee based on the requirement of the brief. After planning for the interview session with Mr. Liew, we analyzed the questions and answers them planed on how to place all the details into the magazine.

The prepared interview questions

This is my second time working with a profession from the construction industry. This project is more complex compared to the first as it involves more details and information about the profession. Other than that, it requires critical thinking andf digital literacy in order to complete this project.

We had to research on how to create a professional magazine before deciding on the layout. This shows that research is important before planning because the outcome of the project might be wrong without proper research. This is because the format layour of magazines are different from normal reports. They have margins, headlines, pictures, etc. Therefore, digital literacy important in this project as the magazine involves different software and programme.

Other than that, I have learnt that critical thinking plays an important role as it allows me to think further, deeper and out of the box while carrying out a task or project. Without critical thinking, we will not be able to figure out methods to summarize the interview answers and prepare the information as a magazine. Also, critical thinking allows the brain to work independently and not based on too many sources, especially sources from the Internet. This way, our brain can figure out different approaches and methods while dealing with an issue.

From this project, as the group leader, I have made sure to distribute work evenly among the group members so that everyone can contribute to the project. Other than that, I have understood the importance of time management and tried to finish the progress on time before each tutorial session. However, there was a problem with printing the magazine, but we were sill able to finish printing and managed to submit the project on time.

In a nutshell, as this is my first time bring a group leader, I am proud of my group's final outcome with the magazine. I have not only gained knowledge in a Civil & Structural engineer's profession but have also learnt and managed to create a magazine.
