RE-BRANDING OF A DAILY OBJECT

This is the final project given to us for Creative Thinking Skills. It is a project that is also divided into two individual task and group task.

As a group of 5 people, we each have to individually prepare a proposal to rebrand and repackage a daily object which will be assigned to the group. Students will have to work individually on the given object for this first part and come up with a name, a logo, a catchy caption or tagline, and a new physical packaging. Students are the required to submit an A4 individual idea process and proposal report regarding the idea development before arriving with the final product. The final proposal will be submitted along with the physical repackaged object.

One of the most suitable rebranding and packaging proposal from one of the members will be chosen for further development in the group task. For the group task, each group is required to produce a 45 second advertisement video, an A3 size poster and a 5 minute product presentation. The product presentation requires students to pretend that they are actual sales person and promote their items. Verbal promotion and demonstration on how to use the product by the members is compulsary during the product presentation.

Project Brief:

Project Process:

Individual Task

I had decided to make the colour pencil packaging in the shape of a cake with drawers. Drawers are the place for colour pencils to be allocated and kept when not in use. There are holes on the top of the cake (like candles) as spaces for colour pencils to be placed while in use so that the colour pencils do not go missing easily.

Branding

After one of our colour pencil rebranded product has been selected, we started to work on improving the packaging of the product. As a group, we had to discuss our marketing strategy and decide on our advertisement storyline.

Product chosen: Justin's product

Product name: Clix

Project Process:

Justin's initial colour pencil product rebranding

Concept: Colour wheel helps customers understand the mixing of colours

Prototype One

We decided to remain the colour wheel and change the compartments inside of the colour pencil box.

There is a box placed in the middle of the colour pencil box for storage, a compartment for the sharpener and a handle for customers to hold the colour pencil box easily.

Product Packaging

The second prototype is an improved version of the first prototype. We have removed the square compartment in the middle and replaced ith with plasticine to hold the colour pencils in place. The colour pencils point towards the middle and is taken out by lifting the cover of the colour pencil box.

The colour wheel remains.

This is our final product which is the repackaged colour pencils which will be promoted. The colour wheel has been attatched to the top of the colour pencil box. The colour pencils each have a compartment to be placed in by sliding the colour pencil in and out of the colour pencil box.

Poster

Initially,we thought that the poster was more of a presentation board, therefore our drafted poster was an infographic poster about the layers of our colour pencil box.

Design One

The initial poster design

Our final poster design is based on our logo: CLIX, and our tagline: CLIX, Just Mix

Our poster is a conceptual poster where using CLIX bringhtens up a person world with vibrant colours. This is because CLIX allows customers to broaden their colour range as the colour wheel allows them to mix colours to form new colours.

Advertisement Video

We came up with three advertisement video storylines.

The chosen advertisement was a kidnap case where the daughter's father managed to mix the colour purple to save his daughter by using CLIX. Our group used Hui Teng's three year old niece to play the role of the daughter and most of the filming took place in Melacca.

Marketing Strategy

We decided on making out booth out of our product name, "CLIX" and display our products infront od the booth.

Making of the Booth

Cutting A0 cardboard boards to form the word "CLIX". Slit slot method to secure "CLIX" together, this acts as an additional support to stabalize the booth.

Painting the booth so that it would stand out and enhance our booth to attract customers (marketing strategy)

TGC Aquired:

This is the final project for Creative Thinking Skills which is also separated into individual and group task where we take creative thinking into product packaging. I have understood the importance of fully understading a product before planning and brainstorming for a packaging. Understanding a product is an important criteria in producing a creative and functional packaging which will be able to attract attention from targeted customers. By creatively improving the packaging of an item, the functionability of the item will be able to set customers at ease while in use. From the individual task, I was able to identify the needs of targeted customers and propose an improved colour pencil packaging.

While working on the group task, we had many discussions and meetings on the product as it is a DIY made product. We decided to complete all the products as a group insetad of individually completing a product each. This way, we would be able to have a consistant product outcome and be able to spend more time with each other as a group. Having a strong bond and close relationship between group mates is really important as communication is a very important factor while carrying out projects. From ordinary friends, to close friends, to family who spends more than 12 hours together, this was how far and how strong our bond has grew. Even with this strong friendship bond, we were not distracted while working together and did not neglect our work and only play around and have fun as if discussions were free time friends spent together.

I feel really blessed and grateful for being part of this wonderful team. All group members were very passionate in doing the end product, everyone was hardworking and contributed their full effort during each discussion and meeting session. Everytime a problem occured while making the product, everyone would try their best to come up with ideas and solutions to overcome the problem with a positive attitude. We do have different opinions, different point of views but we respect each other's thoughts and ideas. We were not judgemental and we learn from each other's strong points and helped each other work on our individual weaknesses. Other than that, we have our serious times during discussions but we also manage to have fun while working on the product. It was a new kind of experience where I had the best of both worlds- fun and work instead of stressful moments only.

Also, I have understood the importance of digital literacy as everything in this 21st century is computerized such as the advertisement video. It is important to fully utilize softwares in order to come up with a proper advertisement video which meets the criteria.

In short, it is important to be able to be able to work together with others and communicate well with one another. It was a huge blessing that we ended up in the same group because this project really brought us closer than ever to each other. We practically had the time of our lives working with each other for this project submission and I am very proud of my group for being able to pull off such a booth and marketing strategy because all of them are amazing group mates who I will love to work together with them. If there was a second chance to be in the same group as them, I would not hesitate for a second. However, from this project I have learnt that we also have to improve on our weakness swhich poor workmanship of our final product.
