MURAL ART ORAL PRESENTATION

Project Introduction:

The next project given to us is also a group project (same members as the last group) where we will be analyzing mural artwork or steel artwork from Melacca and Klang Valley. A description of the artist's background, mural art, and identification of five Effective Public Communication concepts found in the artwork.

The main task of this project is to analyze four artwork properly with two from each location. From the analysis,a presentation slide must be prepared along with an oral presentation explaining about our analysis on the artwork. The focus of this project is to evaluate oral presentation and speaking skills. In other words, it ensures that we are able to convey the information that we want to express properly and clearly with words to others.

Other that that, we research have to be carried out in depth in order to identify the meaning behind each mural art. It is then followed by analysis on each mural art. The analysis is based on the concepts of Effective Public Communication where the information is gathered during lecture classes. Concepts have to be linked, improvised and explained using the mural art. It is to explain the message which is to be conveyed to the public by the artist. Therefore, research and analysis also plays a huge part in this given project.

Project Brief:

Project Process:

For the mural art, we travelled to Melacca again to take photos of the 3D mural art in an art muzeum. We have picked mural art which are closely related to the society so that is it relavent and easily relatable to Effective Public Communication concepts.

Next, we made our way to Klang where Laman Seni is located. The place is filled with many mural art of different kinds. Since where were a large variety of mural art ranging from humans to imaginations, objects, items, portraits and many other kinds of artwork,  we had snapshots of most of them.

Later on, we filtered the artwork by doing a brief analysis on each of them. We quickly disregarded those which could not protray much concepts. We picked our final mural art and did research, analysis and identification of them. Lastly, we prepared the slides which mainly consists of keywords while the a very detailed explaination of each artowkr was done in the presentation.

These were creative shorts taken at the muzeum, some of them were taken creatively and randomly while some of them were taken according to the instructions there.

These are examples of the photos we have taken at Laman Seni. Most of the mural art had description about it. There were some which portrayed deep meaning behind the artwork, some were interactive and some were amazingly created.

These are the two mural art we have picked to carry out our analysis on

Reflection:

As a person who has never worked with mural art before, I find this project very fascinating and interesting as well. Previously, I have only viewed mural art like other artwork which is similar to art which are painted on paper or other medium. I have never thought that mural art could be interactive or informative as well. This project has made me step out of my comfort zone and explore an art type which I have never took to heart before.

As this project involves both artwork (non-verbal) and Effective Public Communication concepts, it requires understanding and analysis of the mural art in depth. This way, data collection, investigation, and research are the key things to work on in this project. Therefore, we had to research briefly and generally about the mural art location (understanding of mural art purporse in that area) and then understand the purpose of the artist drawing background (mural art story origin or concept). This shows that preparation is in need in order to understand something clearly.

Also, we must always have a back up plan. When we were exploring mural art in Klang Valley (Pasar Seni), we were unable to find interesting mural art which can convey Effective Public Communication concepts. Instead of wondering what to do at that moment, we quickly discarded the idea of continue to search for mural art in that location and headed off to pursue another mural art location. This has saved us time because instead of having to figure out where to search for another location with mural art, we already had a back up plan in our mind.

In short, it was fascinating and interesting trying to understand the message sent across from something which is non-living (the mural art) to humans (the interpretation). Although there could be different perceptions in the understanding or the concept derivation, it is the method message is conveyed to the public.
