dRAWING BASIC SPACES
This is the final project given to us for Introduction to Drawing which is also an individual project. In this final individual project, students are given an existing studio unit layout with basic spaces such as bedroom, living room space, kitchen and toilet. Students are required to think about the layout of the area by locating suitable furniture, finishes and lighting. However, students are not allowed to change the existing studio layout.
Students are required to draw plan views, elevation views, section and perspective views of the studio layout. It is required to include doors, windows, wall and flooing designs in the orthographic drawings. This project main focus is on the basic dimension, scale and the correct furniture choice.
It is recommended to refer to Ikea products as the furniture which will be placed in the student's studio unit layout.
Project Introduction:
Project Brief:
This final Introduction to Drawing project is closely related to the previous project as they both require technical drawing skills in order to be able to complete this project. Orthographic drawing of the layout is a compulsary. Therefore, calculation plays a huge role in designing the layout of the studio as the drawings have to be in scale.
The scale used in this project is 1:50

Ms Ida has guided me through this project as I was in her tutorial group. This is the tutorial sheet which is compulsary during each tutorial session. The comments and my progress are written down on the second page of the tutorial sheet

TGC Aquired:
This final Introduction to Drawing project is closely related to the previous project as both of them involve technical drawing. However, the difficulty level of this project has been taken up a notch as we have to draw our orthographic drawing based on the scale provided which is standardized for every student. In this project, each calculation has to be precise because the size of the furniture drawn into the orthographic drawing depends on the fixed scale and its actual dimension.
With this project, I have started to understand the relationship between the actual object dimension, the drawn image dimension and the fixed scale. It is extremely important for an architect to understand scale as each plan drawing must be according to a fixed scale so that proposals are applicable in reality. It was quite difficult for me to calculate the scale at the beginning. I kept messing up the numbers and miscalculated dimensions easily. However, after numerous tries and consultation from my peers, I finally managed to get the hang of calculating the scale.
While carrying out this project, I have tried to improve on my technical drawing skills. I began to work on line weight, which was my weakest point in the last ITD project. During tutorial session, Ms Ida has guided me by helping me further understand line weight. She had highlight methods on how to draw section and elevation drawings by utilizing line weight to show depth of the area. After that tutorial session, I started to understand more about the suitability of each pen thicknes while drawing to enhance the orthographic drawings.
In conclusion, this ITD project has brought drawing up another notch. From this project, I can apply the skills I have learnt which are technical drawing skills and architectural rendering skills in orthographic drawing as a means of communication. With this I am able to express three-dimensional space and objects into two-dimensional orthographic drawings.
